Why should you die to go to heaven?

God has been known to take at least one person straight up to heaven before, without killing them first, so it is possible. I guess that if you don't want to die then you find out what that person did and copy him.

From my reading of the creation passage in Genesis, it would seem that the barrier of death did not exist originally. The transition from earth to heaven was an easy one. We can see this because God actually walked on the earth with humans. Remember the warning given to Adam and Eve: eat from the tree (ie rebel against God) and you will die. Thereafter, death became a barrier that had to be passed through. It was death that Jesus defeated when He rose from the dead, having already defeated sin by His sacrificial death on the cross.

Heaven is built on clouds, bodies will pass through clouds, so only our spirits can walk upon the ground there. As for what they use for material, I don't know, dead wood?
