You know they say 'you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family', why do they say that as if that is supposed to make everything ok?

Well, what else could they say that WOULD make anything okay? It's the best you can do on things like that, is to say, "Oh well, it's a matter of fate." and to leave it alone, people can't fix everything, but they can sure as heck try.

I don't think it is designed to make everything OK, just to remind you that as much as you can't pick them, you still can't help but love them, as much as you might want to kill them from time to time. You can choose who to hate but you can't choose who you love, and that includes the un- choosable family. Yeah they drive us nuts at times, but they wouldn't be family if they didn't send you nuts. My ineterpretation of that comment has always been you can chose who you care to have in your life. You chose your friends but your family was chosen for you at birth. My friends are closer to me than my family ever was and if I was to run into my family somewhere as strangers they would never in a million years be people I would chose to be friends with.

Ugh! I hate when 'they' say that! I know it's true, but do I really need a reminder??? The great thing is that as you get older, you can certainly CHOOSE who you open the door to!

Put it this way, if the people in my family were just outsiders there is no way I would choose them for my friends. So it doesnt make everything ok, it's just a stupid cliche. I like the one that says you can't pick your family but you can pick your nose :)

ACTUALLY I NEVER HEARD OF THAT BUT WHAT I THINK IT IS MEANING IS U HAVE THE DECISION TO CHOSE WHO IS UR FRIEND SO IF SOMEONE IS A BITCH........TELL EM TO FUK OFF...FRIENDS COME AND GO, BUT AS FAR AS UR FAMILY IF SOMEONES BEING AN ASSHOLE U SHOULD TRY TO WORK IT OUT, BECAUSE U CANT JUST LOSE A FAMILY MEMBER THEN GO GET A NEW ONE...
