That depends on the possession. I believe that many people are indeed mentally ill when they exhibit that kind of belief and behavior. But there are certain cases where pharmaceuticals have not even begun to touch the symptoms. I dont know about you, but when you hit someone up with a certain ammount of tranquilizer and they still behave as though they were possessed... I dont know what it is exactly, but it probably goes a bit beyond the normal mental illness spectrum and something spiritual/supernatural should at least be considered.
