I see a very dark orange when I close my eyes. No shapes or other colors. Eventually the orange gets a little brighter as my eyes get used to it, but VERY slowly.
-
Yeah, that's after-images. The red stuff is the blood in your eyelids. You can see a green after-image if you look at a bright object before closing your eyes.
-
I see flashing colors...
-
Yes i can, I see them all the time!!
-
I see what I had been looking at, only it looks like a negative and not really clear. Then some colors creep in...mostly green.
-
Now that you suggest it, I can.
-
Yes, but I suppose I always assumed that everyone could :D I suppose judging my the answers you recieved, I was correct in my assumption.

A common medical term for these is "floaters." many people have them with their eyes open when looking up at the ceiling or at a ceiling light in the doctors office.
-
Yes, I think they are called phosphenes, an image burned into your retina temporarily. I've seen some pretty neat pictures on the net you are supposed to stare at then look at a blank wall to see a floating image. http://azkabanana.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/jesus.jpg

If I go into a meditative state I can see things with my imagination. Certainly does make for some nice daydreaming. But I can only really do it when I'm alone and its quiet.

I see crazy patterns of scattered light and even though my eyes are closed I still try to "focus" but I can't - the pattern escapes and moves away, so it's more like a car ride - watching the scenery go past.
-
shapes more than colors.
-
Yes I can. And i noticed if you focus really hard, you'll start to see faint white clouds pulsating, if you focus longer, they'll start to form a funnel, and you'll see a point at the end. You can actually try and get closer to that point and finally go through it. It takes patience and deep meditation. Some say it's the journey into the subconscious mind. Many people never experience this because they cannot hold their focus for more than 10 minutes without being interrupted by racing thoughts.

I used to do that quite a lot in my childhood. Just close my eyes and 'see' multi-coloured patterns under my eyelids. I quite enjoyed doing it when I was younger. I suppose it was like a 'trip' for me, but without the drugs! :-)

I can see cartoon images moving really fast and changing from Popeye to Donald Duck. Sometimes I see people or animals. It's entertaining but when I try to see clearer, they seem to slide away. I joined three forum that people say they have experienced the same thing and have found no real answer.
