A learning plan is a personal guide for self-development activities. The following guidelines will help you in creating and using a learning plan to develop your competencies (knowledge, skills, and other work-related qualities). Competency growth leads to greater effectiveness and satisfaction in your current role and it also prepares you for future career opportunities. In general, building a learning plan involves identifying: * areas needing improvement (which you can explore by talking with your manager) to better meet the requirements of a current work role; or * present opportunities for further growth (which you can explore by thinking about your personal and career aspirations) * identifying and committing to actions that address these needs or opportunities by building your relevant knowledge, skills, or other qualities. You can record your plan as you develop it by using one of two tools: * The Learning and Development Objectives template in the Planning For Success document * The Learning Plan Worksheet in the Planning for Success document (PDF) * An alternate "stand alone" Learning Plan Worksheet (Word Format) These tools assist in preparing and monitoring your plan. 1. Identify area(s) to be addressed 2. Identify objectives—what you hope to achieve in terms of growth 3. Explore available options and resources 4. Identify actions 5. Assign start and completion dates to the actions From: http://www.psc.gov.sk.ca/Default.aspx?DN=1d0d02dc-8ad6-40d5-9d2e-a41f20c64166
