The brand that I build myself. I prefer AMD processors and seagate hard drives. As for the rest, I generally look for the best price.
-
Sony.

I don't buy branded computers, I usually select a clone built with branded parts. Branded computers are often a marketing illusion based on your familiarity with the name. Most of the parts inside were not made by that brand. Nor do you often have a choice.
-
HP.

I like Dell and Compaq. Compaq allows you to use most any part that you can desire. Dells only allow Dell Parts. So, overall Compaq has a little edge over dell. But both are fine.
-
Apple. Everything is beautiful. I am not going to start a flame war, but I really enjoy my system never crashing.
-
Any brand that has open architecture and room for upgrades.
-
Apple.
-
Dell. I am very pleased with all of the Dells that I have used.
-
My preference buying one online is Dell. For the rest of my computers, I put them together myself with excess pieces I can get ahold of. I hate the 'disposable' computers today that have everything integrated onto the mother board. I ordered my dell with separate cards for everything so I can upgrade it myself.
-
Compaq
-
HP computers.. very durable

I have my AlienWare computer that is real good for my obsessive gaming. Dell computers are the worst though. They don't even deserve the fires of hell as far as I'm concerned.
-
Apple (white apple). Love to have one. although I now use HP Compaq presario. Oh I love it!
-
Dell? Because I own one. Right now it has a major virus I think.

My opinion on this question is: AMD based CPU, not Intel. However, what you decide to accomplish with your computer is what the recommendations will be. Intel computers are usually better for working, such as Office XP or Adobe Photoshop CS2, however with the introduction of the Intel Dual Core 2, it rivals AMD in gaming experience, which leads to.... AMD, which is usually better for gaming, casual or hard core.
-
The ones which you can have built to sort your own needs. I've never brought a branded computer.

No brand name I built my own and have built close to 45 clones as a part time job and a good hobby. It was a better hobby years ago, because building a clone was more difficult. Motherboards had lots of "jumpers" that needed to be adjusted according to the processor, memory and other factors. Now they are too easy to build, but I still enjoy the process.
