Children and pre-teens do sometimes "pair up" in affectionate relationships like adults. Because of their lack of sexual and emotional maturity, this is often called "puppy love" -- it's often considered cute and harmless, whereas adult romance has a reputation for "danger": to the heart, for unwanted pregnancy, angry breakups, etc.

I dont think it has changed but when I was coming up it was that silly feeling between young people, especially during adolescence. kind of harmless, clueless, non physical. most was emotional. Not much of that anymore. Real love is the adult rated version of puppy love. including all sorts of side effects..

I believe puppy love is when we "fall in love" with a different person every week, while in school, up till the teenage years. Real love is totally different. It consists of giving, taking, respecting, and working out the issues, communicating and spending quality time together. To me, it is an intense, deep emotional bond, that cannot be broken or shattered.

I think puppy love is a plain infatuation for children, when I was in grade school; I used to adore this girl. But when I grew older, I would just say, she was once my crush.
