It is important to eat before donating blood. Afterwards take it easy for a couple of hours. Don't ride in fast elevators. The can cause your blood pressure to drop resulting in light headedness or fainting Don't smoke or drink alcohol for a few hours. Avoid heavy lifting or straing your arm. Things as mentioned in previous answers such as drinking fluids (not alcohol!) to replace blood volume, but since the blood cells themselves take longer to replace, it's possible to still feel a bit faint for a few hours afterwards. Also, if you need to take the stairs, don't charge up them as the sudden increase in work rate may not be compensated fast enough by the heart and can cause you to feel lightheaded or even faint, not ideal on staircases!
