  • I don't think people fear death. They fear the unknown, or they fear possible pain. In terms of other people, they fear loss. That's all.
  • Lucretius claims that death is but a mirror on our birth. We didnt fear out birth, so why fear death. Socrates claims that since we have never experienced it, we cannot pass judgement one way or another. Like if you havent ever tasted or smelled a particular food, you cant say it is good or bad. Epicurus claims that when we are alive we are not dead, so that it doesnt affect us. And when we die, we will be no more, so it doesnt effect us then. Is it rational to fear the unknown? The unknown could be wholly good, and yet we fear it still.
