I was verbally abused by my first wife for near on ten years, so I divorced her, eventually, in 2005. A drastic measure, maybe, but the experience over a protracted time period nearly killed me.

I don't care to recount the recent experience much, but I didn't do anything, just ignored it. Doesn't work like everyone always says it does. People still verbally abuse you, when they know it seems you won't defend yourself, and it still feels like crap. Then a few days later one of them had the audacity to ask me for a cigarette, so I just kept on ignoring them and walked away lol.

I'm 6'1" and weigh 245#, so it doesn't happen too often. Still, letting someone vent is the best way.

A few months ago. I was basically told that I was selfish, I never kept my word, and I was a con artist - so to speak - because I used a lot of words and never followed through. That is putting it all very nicely. I didn't really react. But something in me snapped, and I decided that every relationship in one's life -- even relationship with family -- must be built on respect and trust. We haven't really talked since then.
