  • EDTV is a MAJOR step forward in the industry, altough for some reason the TV companies are struggling to get everything speced to HDTV. So why is that? To go thru all the details on here would be quite lengthy, but here's a great link that discusses the differences of SDTV (Standard), HDTV (High), and EDTV (Enhanced). http://www.projectorcentral.com/video_signals.htm Hope you find this useful!
  • I believe there is more information in an HDTV signal, so it should be possible to get the better picture from HTDV. Both 720p (720 progressively drawn horizontal lines from top of picture to bottom) and 1080i (1080 lines, but interlaced so it does not have as much information as 720p) formats have more lines of information than EDTV (which is effectively 480 lines) and both HDTV formats are wider pictures - more information per line. "Better" is a different question. It is possible (and perhaps likely) that a good EDTV device's picture will look better than HDTV on a cheap set.
