"The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo and "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" by Jacques-Louis David
-
The first two that come to mind are 'The Coronation of Napoleon' and 'The Death of Marat' by Jacques-Louis David, my favorite classic painter. His paintings were incredibly realistic and superbly composed, but they were also political commentary at the time. The arrogance of Napoleon's self-coronation is astounding and I love the quote on the Marat work: "July 13 1793: Marie-Anne-Charlotte Corday to citizen Marat - It is enough for me to be truly wretched to have a right to your kindness." David made a political martyr out of Marat with this work. Great work with a very interesting history.

I could never pick just two, there's so many paintings that speak to me but I prefer stuff with a lot of symbolism and contrast as well as photorealism paintings. Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, Temptation of St. Anthony, Death of the Miser, Fall of the Damned, Hell, The Last Judgement, and Paradise and Hell are big faves and really inspired me as an artist. I also enjoy , Michael Whelan's cover art for the H.P. Lovecraft collection, Purple Haze, and a couple other paintings he has done over the years. I also enjoy Japanese Korean art such as "The Great Wave" by Hokusai

I love all of Degas Ballet Paintings and I love. Poussons' The Judgment of Solomon is also a fantastic painting.
