A plane that is able to land on water.. another term used is "Flying Boat" or "sea Plane"
The wings and engines are usually above the fuselage to stay clear of the water.
Remember Raiders of the Lost Ark? Right at the beginning of the film Indiana Jones makes his escape in a biplane flying boat..
