I must say I like this quote. I think he might have meant that knowledge is logical and love is emotional, and you need both halves to complete the whole.

Maybe it has to do with an idea that love is an area that is not ruled by reason. Or maybe that love is feeling that one cannot fully understand. I don't know, what do you think?

Aquinas notes that there are two other words that are related to love. They are dilection and charity. Love is the most general of the three. Dilection is love that is formed by rational thinking and then expressed in free choice. Love, properly speaking, however, is a desire for that which is perceived as good. Love, therefore, does not need to have a rational basis for it. It rises above both knowledge and the rational process of thinking about the “good” of things. This is why we say “love is blind.” A person simply sees the good in something and desires it. As Aquinas notes, the love of the ultimate good transcends dilection or rational choice. The love of the ultimate good, of course, is the love of God.

That love is the true solution. Basically what I interpret is that he sees knowledge as somewhat of a burden and therefore says, "Love is the answer while knowledge is somewhat of a waste of time." That is what I interpreted from it.

Aquinas often wrote about the nature and attributes of God that we can not learn from reason and science. Therefore, where the knowledge of god ends, the immeasurable love of god explains the rest.
