I've heard that goldfish need an air pump and don't do well in a plain bowl. So what kind of fish can I keep in a bowl, besides Beta?

u can so get a gold fish witout oxygen youll just have to clean the tank more often. but at pets mart they have little tanks for gold fish with installed air pumps those tanks are only about 25 to 40 dollars depends on which one u get. u also may have to get lilttle guppies i believe they live without oxgen

gold fish dont need a air pump but the tank dose need to be cleand out more bettas only dont move in the cold on warm days they will be very active so if you do and up getting a betta you can get heaters to warm up the water

You DO need oxygen for goldfish. They're not labrinth breathers. Which means that they're only able to get their oxygen from the water. They aren't capable of getting it from the air. There's really no fish suited for a small bowl, even bettas. They enjoy more room to swim than just a bowl. Small bowls mimic the dry season which is the worst time of year for fish. This is when they're trapped in tiny puddles of stagnant water. The stores sell bowls because they want to make money and people who say it's okay are ignorant or just don't care what's cruel.

I would urge you not to be cruel by keeping any fish in a plain bowl! I hope that you just never thought about it, and don't realize it is bad for the fish. To be healthy, fish need some space, and hiding places! If it is a cost vs cruelty issue, look on Craigslist for a used aquarium - you can find some great deals, and the bigger you can go, the better!
