  • Sounds like it is idling low. There is usually an idle adjustment screw on or near your carburetor. Look for it and twist it clockwise to adjust your idle. There are also air screws on the carbs (you might only have one carb) Turn it counter clockwise to let more air into the mixture. A rough and sputtery sound is usually too rich and too much fuel. Black fouled spark plugs are usually a sign to too rich.
