why do you care?
-
depends on the content of what you ate. some foods are more dense than others, say a hunk of meat. but if you ate a bowl of rice, it's less dense andw eighs less...by the way, gross question
-
It depends on densitity which would be effected by how much you ate. If it is denser then 1mg/ml then it will sink, but I quite agree with 4theyeblind.
-
on an episode of House he said something about it being the fat in the food that you eat or something like that that causes it to float
-
Because your diet is low in Iron. High iron diets produce darker, heavier poop.
-
Fiber. The less fiber in your diet, the less dense your poop will be. Less dense = lighter. Lighter = more apt to float.
-
I think the primary reason is the amount of gas trapped in it. Dietary differences is secondary. Read this, they seem to know what they're talking about: http://www.heptune.com/poop.html

Not all poop is created equal. I think I read that in the Declaration of Independence somewhere;)
-
If you've got sinkers, you're not getting enough roughage in your diet. EDIT: Oops. I misspelled roughage.
-
It's due to the amount of fat that you ingested, for the most part. Extremely high levels of fat (fried things, for example) tend to float because you overtaxed your pancreas' ability to secrete lipase. It's pretty complex, so I'll leave it at that, except that the more bile (the substance that turns stool dark, generated by the liver) that was able to help break down the meal will lessen this. Alcohol taken with a meal will impair the ability of the digestive system to process fatty meals.

I had a boyfriend who had this problem a few times. One day, every time he went to the bathroom, his stools went to the bottom, but there were these small orangy things (about 10) that floated on the top. He took them to a lab and it turned out that the "floaters" were actually gallstones. I wish he had never shared that with me. eek.
-
I knew a family who ran a septic pumping business. They volunteered to us that floaters were a sign of lots of roughage and sinkers were signs of not enough roughage. They never mentioned any other reasons for this phenomena, but then, I never asked!
-
because pooping is one of lifes little pleasures, and variety is the spice of life
-

-
My family always put out floater until we moved to a different city now we all sink. ???
-
Healthy foods make your poop sink.. Fattening foods make your poop float.
-
Hope floats. Stop hoping and maybe when you release a deuce your brown submarine will make it to the bottom and abut with the porcelain portal to further adventures of poopdom.
-
if you farted a lot it would sink but if you are the type of person who holds it in then its sorta carbonated(not carbon though)... it will sink eventually!
-
xD i cant help but laugh. it depends on density of the poo
-
not all poop can swim
-
As nasty as it sounds its all related the amount of Fat you have ingested.
-
I don't know, the sweetcorn-to-fibre ratio?
-
On an episode of House M.D., he mentioned that when your stool contains too much fat in it, it floats. When you consume many veggies and fruits, it should sink. I don't know how accurate that is though, however it seems to make sense.
-
well if you eat wood it should float i think
-
Goodness...Stop reading these answers...most are wrong...It's gas in the stool. Nothing to due with fat...Most likely something you ate. All the bad things are the worst case...if you're worried ask a DOCTOR.

Swimming poop, now that's funny... That reminds me of that 'floater' t-shirt... http://www.smellytees.com/store/show/0011
