usually if its for work i feel better using the travel agency my employer has a contract with...less risk on my end.

Online. I use www.skyscanner.net to search for flights, then go to each carrier individually. As to which one is best, it depends where you are flying.

We took a trip to Europe spring 07,China fall 07, China summer 08 and used http://www.sidestep.com/ each time and had great luck on getting low prices.
