Any country that that created Shakespeare and the Rolling Stones and stood alone against Hitler has SOMETHING going for it. I'll have what you're drinkin'.

I've been to Britain 3 times and know a few Brit ex-pats who live here. They are generally good people, but some are jerks...just like Americans. They are generally intelligent, but some are morons...just like Americans. Some are reserved and dignified, but some are loud, obnoxious boors...just like Americans.

I have noticed one big difference, at least in my experience: The British seem to be a generally insecure group of people; I haven't really figured out why, as they have contributed an enormous amount to society for such a small corner of the world (realizing, of course, that in days gone by, the empire was much bigger, which may be part of the problem...?). Americans are much more self-confident, but this is often interpreted unfairly as being arrogant.

Whatever the reason, the British do not seem to realize how much their insecurities manifest themselves to those on the outside and most Americans seem to notice it. Regardless, in general, although Americans may have their reservations about certain British idiosyncrasies, in general, we have benign or positive attitudes toward the British.

I can't say what all Americans think about the British, but my experience with different British citizens has led me to conclude that the British are friendly, warm and very funny. However, most people that I've come into contact with on my travels have been warm and friendly regardless of their national origin.

From the few I've met they were extreamly friendly, giving, and pretty interesting. Some of their jokes werent that funny though, I'm assuming they thought our sense of humor was a bit hard to understand/listen to. I've met a few that sucked, who were either extreamly bitchy or extreamly drunk and perverted and was stalked a few times while visiting. But hey, every place has its crazies.

This one? Nothing, really. It's nowhere I'd ever want to travel to, so really don't think much about the British as a population. Besides for a few musical acts, I really can't think of any pop culture or entertainment from the Brits that I really liked. I hope they like it there and are enjoying themselves, but won't be paying a visit anytime.

I love the British overall. They have a great sense of humor and of worth. I have many great conversations with them.

However, I sometimes find individuals somewhat pretensive in their mannerisms. For instance. I read a question where the person asks a very demeaning question about American TV and then used the singular form 'is' rather than the proper plural form 'are'. The same person seems not to realize that proper nouns are capitalized.

    Have a good day.

The only difference I think there are between Americans and Britains are hygienic standards...I know not everyone is like this but I think the percentage is a little higher for the British.

Well seeing as though I am American I see the British as deeply cultured and intelligent people (depending on the person who I am facing. If I am facing a not so intelligent person then they are not intelligent but that doesn't mean that everone who originates from Great Britain is stupid, just that one person.)

They have had some conflicts in history such has ruling the world for 300 years or the Indian crisis or imperialization, etc. but that doesn't mean that they can't change. Americans have made mistakes also.

The same as i feel about any other people from any other country. I love their culture, accent and govt. But at the same time i respect the traditions that make the U.S. what it is.

I heard that saying "British" is just as offensive as saying "Negroes" now. I'm pretty sure that's just in America too, because we're the only ones I know of who are so scared of accidentally offending people that we would never speak or gesture at all if we could do it. I guess that says that we care about their feelings.

My family arrived in America from Great Britain in 1621, beginning with one Larkin Morris Webb. I've been told he was mostly Irish-Welsh.

Right or wrong, my general impressions about the British people are that they sometimes appear to be a little too formal and stuffy. However, I'm quite sure that that could be the case almost anywhere you'd care to go and I'm positive that not all Brits are overly formal or stuffy. No more so than most other country, anyway.

I really enjoy reading the history of the country or of my family's heritage and would love to visit one day, but I don't think I'd want to live there as I really prefer the lighter American lagers over the heavier, more bitter British Stout or Guinness.

A little more uppity and refined than the average American. I especially enjoyed getting "knocked up" in the morning.
