I always set the bottom limit for heavy labor (like furniture moving) at $20. Enough for him to get a few beers and maybe a pizza with his buds after work.

I have never tipped delivery personnel. Didn't know you were supposed too. Oops! They probably think I am a b____ now.

i would have called the company and asked what kind of food the crew they are sending like and how many there are so you can have the food at the place sometime while tey are there shlepping around the furniture, if it's the only job for that day then they can enjoy a snack and drinks. At least if i moved furniture this is what i would prefer!

i think about 15-20 dollars is a good tip, and if it's a lot of furniture, like a whole living room set, maybe a few bucks more. I'd offer him a drink too while i was at it

Enough to buy a twelve pack of beer for after work.

There isn't, if you feel like tipping it should be based off of what you can afford and are willing to give for the service provided.

I can not afford a tip, but I could afford a large glass of iced tea in the summer, and a cup of hot choclate with marshmallows, in the winter. It is the thought and appreciation that counts more than the money.

Well, it would depend on how many were on the crew and how heavy the furniture was. About $20.00 is right for an average delivery, but if they were rude or damaged your furniture or your home, I would not tip them. I once tipped a crew of two and they seemed quite surprised - I guess no-one had tipped them before. As for a houseful of furniture, my hubby and I moved separately into our new home together and had the same movers for both moves, so the crew (of 6) already knew us. We gave them $90.00 dollars at the end of the second move and said 'have lunch or us.' I know for a fact that most household movers go on to move offices, etc., after the first household move of the day is over so their days can be quite long. A good lunch, courtesy of a customer, not only helps them through their day but hopefully helps create positive feelings when dealing with future customers. We had a crew doing landscape work at my home this past summer in the hottest weather of the year; I kept them supplied with frozen bottles of water that would slowly melt and provide cool water to drink. When the job was over, I handed the crew leader a pack of 6 $20.00 gift cards to Pizza Hut and when he handed them out, some of the lads were quite surprised and thanked me personally, telling me how unusual it was. I figured they could either go out to lunch with it or get take-out pizza and share it with their families.
