  • One main cause is the strength of the rays of sunlight that hit the Earth in those particular regions. The sun's rays hit most directly at the equator and the least at the polar regions. The ocean's currents also bring warm or cool air or water to different regions which can cause different climates. The Mediterranean climate is a good example. Warm air and water is brought up by the Gulf Stream to give the warmer climate there.
