Why is it that most people in society do nothing to improve their relationship until something goes wrong instead of actively doing great things frequently or sporadically for it to make sure it never goes wrong?

Here's what I think, and you may not agree. If a relationship is "right" you shouldn't have to "work hard" at it..it should be easy peasy, relaxed, calm and enjoyable. If you always are working hard to make it right, then it's wrong in my opinion. I feel that way about romantic relationships, platonic relationships and all interpersonal interaction. If it is true and real, it should not be hard to do! :)

People don't understand that relationships are work. They don't just magically stay together unless one is a totally marshmallow who's willing to lay down and let their partner make all the calls. That's rare and unhealthy in and of itself. Society still teaches that our goal should be getting married, not what comes after marriage.

Because few people understand that even true love requires working together to build the relationship. That's why so many marriages fail, people don't understand that no matter how much you love each other, you need to work on it. The upside is the reward for that work is beyond words.
