Checking oil pressure, I would imagine. But if you're in doubt as to the proper operation of an oil pump, just replace the darned thing. Loosing an oil pump is like having ones heart stop. The result is the same: death.

If you've recently changed your oil and your oil filter and you still have insufficient oil pressure then replace it.
