    A pulse-oximeter or "pulse-ox" monitors the approximate amount of oxygen that is absorbed into the bloodstream and also the pulse rate. It is used to monitor a person for possible hypoxia. I state "approximate" due to the fact that these instruments tend to be not all that accurate.
