Well of course, without the water you would die eventually so $4,000 isn't going to be of any use to you dead. I don't know why you would have to give him the entire amount - he'd be making a great profit if you even offered him $100. Still, if he would only take the full $4,000 then why not? My life is worth more than that to me. But seriously, why wouldn't you pay the guy some or all of the money to guide you back to civilization? Unless of course, your idea is that he is stranded too (in which case he'd have to be a fool to part with his food and water).

If that were the entire case of it all, I'd let him have everything-money, chips and water. Why? Well, without my insulin, none of it would be any good to me anyway. However, if I weren't sick I'd try to share with him 50/50. Why should both of us suffer, when together we could both have a little food and look for something else to sustain us. But that is just my opinion, thanks for asking!

Of course. Money tastes awful, and has no nutritional value. Money in and of itself is worth nothing. It is what the money can buy for you that has value. Money is just the common medium of exchange.
-
I would offer to pool resources with him and share half the money in exchange for some of his food and water. We could then navigate our way out together.
-
I would consider the giving the money, but how big a bag of chips we talking? If they were those lucnh size i wouldnt bother, they would only be suffcient for a day if well rationed maybe 2. If it were the family size then I would more likely, but whats to say that this guy is willing to part with it? If hes willing to part with his food on a stranded island, then he knows something you don't. Maybe hes got a hidden fridge, or a pantry filled with Bags of chips.
-
Ummm.... I don't really eat chips. But I'd buy the water for $100 :D
-
No, but I would give him the money to lead me OUT of that desert!
-
If I came across the desert, all the money I have would not buy me the chips and water as the guy with food is also in the desert. Therefore in same situation as I am. So then, why would he want my money. But if he were to sell I would buy for a portion of my money; just in case another guy comes offering me more food and water for money. Of course there is the possibility that food, water and shelter is somewhere nearby. What if it's a mirage?
-
Why would I give him all my money? I'd take out a 20 and tell him it's all I had and accept 1 bottle of water, he can keep the chips...salt dehydrates you, then I'd follow him and when the chips killed him... I can take the other water and my 20 back.
-
Duh. Simple. Make a partnership. Split it 50/50.

How about this one: You are stranded on a desert island in the South Pacific thousands of miles from anything. There is one coconut palm tree with what appears to be five coconuts in it. You can finish this one too.
