Why is it so 'wrong' to tell someone to shut up?

I suppose telling someone to 'shut up' can be considered rude. I wouldn't like it if someone told me to shup up. Unless it was in jest.

Its very rude to tell someone that. But if its used like, you cant believe something for example: "jake asked me to prom" and your like, "shut-up", there you go.

I suppose there can be times when telling someone to shut up might be a better choice than to slap the hell out of them, so I really don't see why people get so bent out of shape over a fair warning.

Everyone is entitled to speak his or her mind. So it is not just wrong to tell someone who is speaking to shut up, it is out right rude and should never be encouraged.

It's very rude to say shut up. But, there comes a time that it might be necessary to be rude. For example, if someone's acting like an idiot and they keep saying the same things over and over again while acting loud and obnoxious. If they are being rude and overbearing and they do not take re-direction...well, someone needs to get them to the side and say "shut up". Any other way would not deter them.

Because "please be quiet" conveys the same message in a nicer way..it is just one additional word, after all. Why not take that extra step? It's classier, don't you agree? Happy Friday! :)

The words shut up is rude and abrupt since there are more polite ways to say tell someone to be quiet.

Some people just don't respond to "poilite" ways of people telling them to be quiet, so thats when it is necessary to tell them to "shut up"
