    I am assuming that you wnt to know what substrate, or surface to attach the tile to? Without Doubt, Hardi Board.aka Hardi Backer,...it is a concrete and fiberglass panel that comes in 3 x 5 panels and attaches to the studs with treated screws that resist rust. It makes for an excellent substrate to attach tile to, and will not ROT if water gets through the grout. Available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
