  • Because they are too small and interlocked to allow a clean dividing line to be drawn. If alternate villages along a road are Croatian and Serbian, even if each village is clearly of one community or the other, you cannot untangle the region. If there had been such a clean dividing line, you can be sure that people would have split along it. As it was, the whole point of Ethnic Cleansing was to try and create such as division. It failed, at appalling cost.
  • Excellent question.. the main problem is offcourse that it is almost impossible to do that. Some parts of Bosnia used to have a croatian majority and now no longer have or visa versa. Yet that won't stop people from claiming those areas for themselves. What the serbs did in the last war, the croats did in WW2. Besides, what happens with people who are neither? Better to just teach all their children to respect and love each other.. then problems will die out with their parent's generation.
