The proverb, "Beware the sound of one hand clapping" means that you should be wary of any thesis without an antithesis - an idea that no one questions. As CS Lewis put it - "the most dangerous ideas in a society are not the ones that are being argued, but the ones that are assumed" The reason for this is that, if we make a habit of taking things at face value, without tesing their validity, without questioning the logic behind them- one day, we're going to buy into something false...something dangerous. And we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.
