  • God made us in his own image and likeness.
  • That is a great question, and I do get the subtle message there. The blood gospel we hear these days was created to support a dark image made by man... but in the genuine Kingdom Gospel, the central theme was that we are created in the image and likeness of God... and we should think of God as our heavenly Father. http://gospelenigma.com will explain the difference between these two gospels. One is created in our dark nature and the other reflects our nature in the light.
  • Or is there any likeness in either direction? More likely there's no resemblance either way, I'd say.
  • god is just a substitute word for a being we have completely no knowledge about. god is just a translation of the greek word theo as in theology. god is a nameless generic space filler for people who dont have time or inclination to seek out a name for the personality of the creator. Jesus has a name, why doesnt his father have a name? wise up. God is not His Name. God is not a sacred name. Neither is Jehovah, Yahweh or Elohim.
  • depends...did God create you or did you create god
  • The Bible says that "God" is a jealous God . . . right? Don't you think that jealousy is more a "human" characteristic? Jealousy is born of ignorance or the inability to see the big picture. This contradicts the belief that God is omniscient and omnipotent. Right?
  • We are the image.
  • God is created in our image in my opinion. The whole Christian religion is based on hearsay and then written down by humans using their subjective senses to the max. That they felt the need to pump their egos up by saying we are copies tickles me no end. God is more of an idea in my mind than anything I can put a physical wrapping around.
  • We created God in our image. In India he's Indian. Tibet Tibetan, etc. Back in my undergraduate days, my comparative religions instructor thought that the KJV bible reference to us being created in God's image was referring to our ability to think rather than how we look. That seems to me a more intelligent :) interpretation of what the original human authors meant.
  • First off, very nice question. Second, God is created in our image. God is the most popular fictional character is history.
  • God created man in his image.
  • They say we are made in the image of God,but this triggers the old argument of what colour is God!
  • image of God..this is not pertaining to the "physical" or color...God is SPIRITUAL...HE gave us many more attributes than HE gave animals..we can think, laugh, cry, hurt in heart, acheive ,love, hate, have compassion, work, play....much more than animals...
  • Before you can answer your question, which is a great one, you first need to answer two questions: what does it mean to be created in the image of something, and what is your image of God. These are two very broad topics which have been thoroughly debated for millennia, and can't be answered here. As to the first questions, this could mean anything from being an exact replica, or using God as the model from which we are formed, to possessing qualities that are God-like. According to Thomas Aquinas, it's the latter. Being created in God's image means that we have God-like qualities such as logic, compassion, curiosity, reason, etc. As God is the ultimate and infinite perfection of these qualities, we only have a tiny fraction of the level of perfection that God possesses. He likens them to rays of the sun- only a fraction of them touch an individual. As for our image of God, he goes on to say that it is informed by the effects of God that we see in our lives. Going back to the sun analogy, we feel heat from the sun's rays, which tells us that the sun is hot, but that does not tell us that the sun is heat. So to answer your question, yes. I believe we are created in God's image, and we have used our image to create our image of God, but that does not infer that God is indeed created in our image.
