Sit the person down and say that you need to talk about some stuff. Say the things that are on your mind, and I'm sure he will have some stuff to say as well and hear him out. Make sure you get it through to him that you need the time and the reasons why.

We all search for exactly the right words to say emotionally difficult things as if there are some magic words that will make it easy. The truth is there are no magic words. You just blurt it out. It will be awkward but that's what you have to do. Don't put it off, the sooner the better.
