I like the relationships category. It seems people just haven't been taught how to develop mature, intimate relationships. I blame our "disposable lighter" society. We buy things that are made to be thrown away. Our kids "date" so many other kids in junior and senior high, that they are accustomed to being dumped. They even come to expect that either they will be dumped, or they'll dump the other person. So when they're tired of someone, they just move on.
Then when they're older, they have no practice in true relationship building.
I think the "expert" designation is a bunch of hooey. All it means is quantity..nothing whatsoever to do with quality, value, truth..another meaningless designation to inflate people's egos I suppose. When I get to know you better I'll tell you what I really think! :) ((hugs))
I am the authority in the Star Trek category.
Social concerns. I like some of the social and social sciences questions and answers.
Perhaps lingerie...I'll have to check it out.
Yes, I have (and I actually am...): the Beatles and Learning Italian. OK, the Beatles is just for fun, but I'm proud about being an authority in Italian. *polishes nails on shoulder* lol :o)
On many that I am already an expert of.
Immigration. I've had to go through the system with my son-in-law and daughter and have learned a lot. I learned even more on Yahoo Answers.
Should the "Category Experts" feature be brought back? Why or why not? Either way, what should be changed about it if it is?

Do you think allowing users to be experts in categories is a good way to get people familiar with category names? Why or why not?

You're reading Have you found a category on AB where you feel as though you qualify as an authority? What does that category entail?

Yes, that disposable, lighter society has certainly made it's dehumanizing impact on many of us. True relationship building has fallen victim to the alienation alphabet soup that people continually serve up to one another. Thanks for sharing, krazymike.:)

I didn't mean disposable and lighter. I was referring to the fact that we don't buy anything with permanence. We buy the disposable lighters for mere convenience rather than lasting value. People don't buy the refillable lighters except to add them to their collection.

I thought that you were using "disposable lighter" as an analogy for how quickly people dump one another and take up with somebody else.
I stand corrected.
