  • yes. no. why do you care?
  • Yeah, I have. I've bought 'chicken soup' books, and they come under 'self help'. They did help me I suppose because they help put things in perspective, and helped to distract me from the thoughts that were bothering me.
  • Yes-Yes and Yes,I remember one book called You're O.K. I'm O.K. and even after reading that book and other book's,it still took time for the word's to sink in - And I thank the Lord I did ! there's know telling where I would have headed -- Good Question sure got me thinking -- Pattijo
  • Yes I have a book about codependence, and Yes it did help me. I think it has much to do with if you are ready to change and what you put into it ! most of the tings in self help books you have heard before at some point, but you frame of mind and openess to it will change the way you hear/read the information. If you want it to help, It will ! Good luck !
  • I bought self help books and tapes to help me give up smoking. No they did not help I used to lay in bed listening to the tape chewing nicotine gum and smoking a cigarette I gave up with out the help
  • Yup! I bought "101 Ways to Get and Keep his Attention" by Michelle McKinney Hammond. It made me a better girlfriend and instilled in my mind and heart to be a positive person, INSIDE OUT! I read this whenever I'd want to uplift my mood and state of mind. This really helped me to be a positive thinker, not only in matters of my relationship with my bf, but also my personality as a precious, joyful, and beautiful woman. <wink-wink> ;-)
  • Yes. Lots of them and they really help a lot when you feel down!
  • I have found a lot of support in self help books over the years. I have a blog offering support in these areas and recently had someone post a similar request for good quality titles. See my response here http://selfmotivational.brighterplanet.org/self-motivational/self-motivational-book-list Hope it helps
  • Yes. I even buyed "Don't take this book in your hands" and "How to fight compulsory book buying". Whether they help, depends on you.
  • I got one on Sunday called "The Highly Sensitive Person- How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You". I have not started reading it and it is for a psychology project.
  • Yes, The road less traveled, all of them.
  • Found. One did, it forced me to be happy for once for three days streight. I guess it's cuz it basically said fuck everyone else do what makes you happy and don't worry about it.
  • Yes, and yes. I have bought many self-help books over the years (on various subjects), and I have gained new insights and helpful suggestions from each of them. I grew up in a very dysfunctional family, and I have read many, many books trying to understand the pain and suffering I went through.
  • Self Help book helps those who have a desire to help themselves. They provide great and even profound pointers on what to do. But , the book cannot change your life without your effort involved. Its takes a desire to change for the books to actually work.
  • I haven't bought any but I borrowed some. One of them was "Why Men Love Bitches" and it has some helpful tips but at the same time you have to remember what kind of man you have - you can't ever follow a book word for word. I got upset because he found it, read some of it, and when we were in an argument he used the book's words against me. He was right but still, a woman does not like to be corrected by a man who quotes a woman's book! Edit- actually I did buy two relationship help books for my boyfriend and I. They help somewhat but not really. I think perhaps they must be outdated.
  • yes +5
  • One on pain management did. Also fat is a feminist issue.+5
  • Yeah. All books are self-help if You look at it in a broad sense, cause all books are meant to give knowledge about something (directly or indirectly) and/or entertain. Both of these things help. . But if You mean "practical psychology" books, then yes I did. It's like a conversation with a very smart person. (with the right book)
  • I've bought a lot of self-help books over the years. Sove have been very helpful, some have had a few good ideas, and some have not been helpful at all or else I started reading them, got bored and didn't finish the book. I would recommend certain good self-help books to anyone.
  • No. I would be completely hypocritical to be annoyed at the people who live their life by the words of the Bible to then go off and buy any kind of self-help book.
