Not any more. There were plenty in the 1960's - West Point included. All tiny hills. Then business and mountains started closing from the south traveling north.
Best dependable snow would be Hunter Mountain. All man made snow, all packed powder, empty during the week, 25,000 people on the weekend.
For big snow have to go further up north along the vermont border.
I think there would be some good skiing in the southern NY area if we would get some snow. The only thing I care about when I am near Poughkeepsie is getting to the Cracker Barrel in Fishkill. :-)
There still are!
Catamount
and West point.
There also used to be a place near pine bush called "haystack" (?) or something. Not sure if still open. Last time there about 15 years ago.
Hunter is too "citified"! You're liable to get run over by hotdoggers.
or Bellayre for that warm cozy feeling, although I hear they are starting to build a mega resort there which will kill its character.
Joey.
I also heard Hunter Mountain.... but I live in Upstate NY.. Near the border of Vermont,, and we have the best skiing in the area....
1. I think Haystack became thunder ridge (?)
2. There is catamount on that side of the river.
3. West point ski area is still open.
4. Ski sterling....Is that still open? In sterling forest?
Haystack was such a little, locals, secret type place....
small, but with some cool stuff for a small mountain.
I went up there years ago after a one foot dump when you coulda skied anywhere and enjoyed it!
BTW I dont' work for any of them.
