In the US, so long as you are both residents of the same state, and the weapon is not a machine gun or "any other weapon" under NFA guidelines there is no federal paperwork involved. Your state may require paperwork. Even if they do not, it is best to have a bill of sale or receipt to document the transaction should the gun end up being used in a crime.
