I try to listen to the instruments, singing and lyrics.

it depends.. if it's something running in the background, usually the beat and melody, but if I listen to it intensively, it's most often all three combined (although with bands such as Arch Enemy, Cradle of Filth or Lamb of God it can be difficult because their lyrics are hard to understand, due to the voice techniques)

Mostly the melody, then the beat, and then the individual instruments. However, if there's hot lead instrument, such as a guitar, then I mostly pay attention to that.

Since I listen to techno a lot these days, I listen to the bass, then beat. When I listen to rock and/or roll I try to listen to the lyrics, but end up listening to the beat
