Obviously, it's hard to describe how something smells. Smoking marijuana basically smells like smoking a cigarette, but with a greenish tone in it :-) The easiest solution may be to find a hemp plant and try smelling it. Or find somebody who smokes marijuana. He can show you how it smells. If you smell that somebody smoked, but it doesn't smell like pipe tobacco or a cigarette or something else that you know, chances are he's smoking marijuana.

It smells like burning rope. Heavy ropes such as those used in construction are made of hemp. It smells something like a brush fire. For example, when grass seed growers sometimes set fire to their fields. Southern California has frequent brush fires that smell a bit like pot. If you are a parent and wonder what that funny smell is, it's probably pot.

The easiest, legal way you could find out would be to burn some sage.... can be found in grocery stores if you dont already have some on the spice rack. It smells very similar. In fact, be sure to burn it outside and shower afterwords... or someone might make assumptions O.o Also be careful about inhaling it. While it's probably harmless, I've found it can give you a headache.

Marijuana and its has a distinctive smell, there isn't anything I can possibly think of that mimics the smell of marijuana smoke. It's uncomparable to tobacco.

First, its what kind of weed is burning that counts. If its some cheap dirty weed, then thats what its going to smell like. If its some Chronic then automatically the smell is pleasing.

my only answer, is kind of... sweet. inviting... similar to a skunk. but less strong so it actually smells good. it will smell extremly difrent if you smell it on their cloths or somthing.. then it will just smell like smoke, similar to a bonfire.

I have not smelled it, but I would guess it smells something like the sweetest herb of the gods, thousands of tiny little mounds of sticky gooey goodness calling out for precious redemption. It's a little piney and a tad skunky but with a sweet herb rack smell... Pot smells different depending on the plant and the quality. Low end stuff burns more woody. High end is more pungent and pronounced like black pepper. Many things can smell like it... especially if you're not familiar with it... so if you're trying to catch someone in the act, double and triple check before you start making accusations.

Some strains smell like a skunk. Burn a little sage and you might get a good idea. It's a distinct sweet odor that smells very good. I have heard that moxa or moxibustion smells exactly like weed, it's used to stimulate blood-flow in acupuncture. This sounds rather weird, but the britney spears perfume "Fantasy" .. you can get hand cream for it. The hand cream is sweet and has that distinct smell of weed. try it! trust me .. !

Haha there a trail here in B.C and theres skunk cabbage everywhere and it smells pretty much exactly like weed.

It smells like the smoke of pleasure being burnt. Too bad I don't have any right now but I sure would like to burn some. I usually am not too concerned with the smell. It's not like cigarettes where if I smoked one of these it would be hard to mask doing so in the house but marijuana is easy to mask because it doesn't burn like tobacco. It is I suppose a musky kind of smell.

well... the plants smell like skunk... when u burn it it smells like a mix of skunk, and just like burning wood. and man dont worry about legal shit like the first guy said...its just all political why its not legal... its not actually damaging. anyways ya im in canada... lol and (in school) i smoke it where the smokers smoke their cigs, they donmt care.

there's no need for a very detailed answer.. marijuana smoke is like no other smoke, it's thick and pungent and if you are in a area where it's being smoked you'll know. just use your head.

smells like herbs, skunky dank herbs. Some of the really good weed smells almost like coffee sometimes. And sometimes it smells like sage or something its very distinctive if i had to put my finger on a legal herb that smells like weed it would have to be like burning hops, if you know what hops are, they are a distant relative to the cannabis plant.
