I don't like the idea because I like to have a beer while I'm sitting on beach, but it is illegal in New Jersey too at public beaches so I comply with the law.

Its good. Alcohol + swimming = drown!

Well I'm sure it is best for the greater good of the people and the beach. Too many people are irresponsible and annoying when alcohol is in the mix, not to mention the safety issue. The public beaches in our area banned drinking a long time ago. It's a good rule, but from time to time my sister and I buy a bottle of wine and drink it in to go cups as we sun ourselves near the water. We're classy like that.

I imagine the beach will be a lot more pleasant and safe. Nothing kills a fun day like a bunch of rowdy aggressive drunks looking for a fight, or flashing body parts that shouldn't be flashed, or getting it on in front of your kids. Stepping on broken glass or a crushed can in bare feet isn't the greatest either.

I would rather ban children!

I think they should keep one adult beach, where you can have a drink, they could keep a lifeguard, who ask for ID, to make sure they are legal, and they have the power to make you leave the beach or call police if they are obnoxious.

I think banning alcohol from the beach is a stab at our freedom. I can totally understand the hazards of drinking and swimming and the glass... However, drinking and doing anything is hazardous, so why the beach? I thought the beach was supposed to be a relaxing place; a place where people can go to hang out and have a party or just to relax and read a book. I can just see a slippery-slope happening...first alcohol is banned from the beach, then police have to search the cars before allowing them to park, then cameras will be set up to monitor any activity in the bathroom.... I'm definitely blowing it out of proportion, but I see little freedoms being taken away at first (drinking and smoking on the beach, talking on the phone in the car...), as a sort of test to see how the public will react. Then once the government knows how far the public will it go....the government comes crashing down in a Big Brother 1984 type of way. Like a frog heating up with water vz. being placed in boiling water.
