  • The fastest road car ever tested is a prototype. It is the 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Lingerfelter. It has a V-8 Twin turbo 802 horespower engine, yet only a few models were ever produced. The price on the car is about 165,000 dollars. It does 0-60 in 2.0 seconds and the quarter mile in 9.2/150 Mph, its top speed is around 262 Mph. There are some motorcycles faster than this car, but there is no other production car ever made for the road that has a faster 0-60 Mph range or a higher top speed. There are however many more cars with more horsepower. This particular Corvette is doing 109 Mph while a Lamborgiuni countash is only at 87 Mph in 5.9 seconds. This car can do 71 Mph in first gear, and if there was an open road from Boston to San Fransico this car has the stamina to cruise at 230 Mph for over 6 hours at a time. you could go coast to coast in about 13 hours. • The correct answer to this question is the Thrust SSC, driven by Andy Green at 763.055 mph And just to correct a previous answer, It's actually "Lingenfelter", and even though it has an "estimated" 300mph top speed (based on formulas including weight and horsepower), it's never been run at over 240 mph (due to security issues). Not only that, John Lingenelter bought 15 Corvettes and tuned them, leaving this car out of the competition. And John Lingenfelter made an even faster car, the 1988 Chevrolet Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer. The top speed was set in Oct 19, 1989 reaching 254.76 mph. The car was driven by John Lingenfelter himself. The fastest speed ever achieved by a vehicle straight out of the factory, is the Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron, with a top speed of 252.5 mph, but it's never been verified by the Guinness Authorities, and it hasn't hit production yet. That's why the McLaren F1 is still the king, at 242 mph and still appears as the fastest car in the 2005th edition.
  • A late-breaking update... (dit..ditdit...dit...ditditdit...dit...dit) Dateline: Nardo, Italy According to the Feb 7, 2005 issue of AutoWeek magazine, a "tuner" version of the Porsche 911-GT2 (called the 9ff 9F-V400) set a new world record for top speed by a road-registered car. The claimed new record is 241.1 mph, surpassing the 240.1 mph record set by a McLaren F1 in 1998. Just to give you an idea what kind of horsepower this kind of speed takes, the 9F-V400 engine produces 828 hp (@7200 rpm) and 649 lb-ft of torque (@6450 rpm)
  • thrust ssc aitn road legal but ive found the fastest road legal car herhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtxfbxGz1u4e a link if it works must go watch (all i say is 2200 bhp no lie!!)

  • Thrust SSC is by no mean a "car", let alone a STREET legal car..... it's actually a dual-jet engine rocket, and it reached its speed record in a desert, on a very long straight line... However, SSC Ultimate Aero TT , an American built car was clocked at 255 MPH and took the record from Bugatti Veyron which held the previous record of 253 MPH. Both cars are production cars, and are the fastest "out of the box" (i.e. not "tuned" or "custom" made) cars to date...
  • 259.393 mph record, for a regular old turbo 2008 Hayabusa motorcycle. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/233/258/Motorcycle-Article/2008-Suzuki-Hayabusa-First-Ride.aspx Or a 342.797 mph run in 2006, by the Ack Attack streamliner, driven by Rocky Robinson, which is powered by two Hayabusa motors that combine to produce 1000 horsepower.
