  • Work very hard, but also seek out possible alternative sources of income such as grants.
  • You've got a few options. First and foremost are scholarships. Even if you don't think you can get them, apply, because you never know. There is a lot of free money floating out there in the form of scholarships. Next would probably be federal and state loans, they are a little cheaper than private student loans and are much more accessible. The only thing with that, is you have to fill out a FAFSA form, with your and your parents tax information. You can get student loans, but most of them either require very good credit reports, a cosigner with a good credit report, or both.
  • Most universities have scholarships, grants, and financial aid, in addition to work study jobs (part time jobs you can hold while attending). Go to a State University (the tuition will be reduced). Also, being an RA typically pays for room and board.
  • My parents would not help me. I got grants, worked part time and took out loans. I will paying for those loans until I am dead. but hey, then they are paid for. IF you want to go bad enough, you will manage it. If you have to, work full time and go part time. Unfortunately colleges make it very hard to afford college any more. Unless you can get a scholarship to pay for everything you are pretty much looking at massive loans. Once you turn 23, you are an independent student and then you qualify for more. apply for every grant, scholarship, work study.. everything. you can do it. it won't be easy. I had to take 12 hours. minimum for full time just to be able to work and carry full time status.. while other students were taking 16-18 hours and not working but when you get that diploma, you will appreciate it more.
  • The most common method is a combination of balancing working with going to class. Some people are able to work full time and attend classes part-time, other do it the reverse. I went to classes full-time and worked part-time, but I also had ADC (welfare). I knew one student who worked full time every other year, and then went to classes on the off years. Hubby was lucky enough to find a career path that the company paid for his classes, so he worked full-time, and went to class at night, at their expense. they have really made good on their investment over the 25 years he has been with the company.
