DSL normally has better upload speeds, but cable has better download speeds.

I have cable and have never had a problem with it. I have several friends with DSL and they've had nothing but problems with it. It's constantly dropping out for them and it's slow as hell. I don't know, maybe it's different based on the area, but me personally, I would go with cable.
