Plasma. I bought an LCD and took it back because there were so many visible artifacts from compression. I couldn't afford plasma, so I ended up with a beautiful Sony HD set with a picture tube! Yeah, it's so 20th Century, but it's a Sony and it looks great. It just takes up a huge amount of space.

TV is something like cloths, you got to see it before you buy it, quality is picture is subjective. But quality should go up if you spend more money and do not want to be bothered seeing the picture before a purchase.
