  • I got started by accident when going to garage sales. There wer things I picked up when I was about 16. Old jewelry, bottles, pottery. Then by pure coincidence, I happened to go to the library to check out some stuff for school. Next to one of the books was an Antique's collectors guide. Some of the "trinkets" I had purchased had some value. This began my interest until I finally became a licensed appraiser and seller. I also do finder's fee auctions for some people. There are many books that you can find dependant on what your interests are. I have a bevy of books and reference guides. To check some areas in which may be profitable, if that is what you are asking, is to search sites on the items you like. Some of these have beginners/starter collection information. By assessing what others have to offer you can see what is "in" for this or other years. You never know what you can find that others may have a peaked interest in. Hope this helps, good luck.
  • Sometimes something might catch your eye or something you always been interested maybe like crystal, ornaments, or a special animal you might like, you can start by finding figurine. Say for instance you like cats, there are lots of things you can collect, like mugs/cups, plates, books, keychains, etc. You have to find something that is going to interest you and items that you would want to have years later or save for a family member, and set up a place that is comfortable for you to display or store the collection. hope I was helpful. good luck.
  • I have an old bottle collection ( amongst much other "stuff") LOL I always loved to look at old bottles in antique stores etc. But when I moved about a block away from an old dump, all heck broke loose. I brought home anything that I dug up and was still in one piece. haha Talk about an addiction ! I ran out of window space in a very short time. I then came across an old bottle shop that was going out of biz and learned alot from its owner. Did some trading and buying. Are they worth anything to anyone else? I would say if they were into a particular "kind" of bottle, then yes, some are. My thing is that I have alot of everything and didnt limit my collection. LOL
  • I seem to collect enemies. I have no idea how it started, but it has been that way since I was a teenager. I don't know that enemies have any intrinsic or monetary value.

  • I have a collection of dolls i've collected from around the world, this got started becasue whenever my dad went on a buisness trip he brought me one back. They are not the kind of dolls you play with, but little decrative ones. As I got older I continued the collection. My favorite dolls are from Malasia (puppet doll, made of wood), lithuania (made of wood and cardboard) and maderia (made of clay). I think I have about 25 now, although currently they are not on display. I doubt they have any value to anybody else other than me, some of them are actually quite nice (some of them are obvious tacky tourist souvineers) but really, they are just personal to me, and would have no interest to anyone else.
  • I collect rocks and stones and gems (see photo) It started when I was at a Mind, Body and Spirit exhibition in Manchester a few years ago, I saw them and thought they were pretty to look at and interesting, so I bought some, and that's where it started. I don't think they're valuable, none are that rare, the really big chunks of amethyst are quite expensive, but I don't have any.
  • i collect Marbles I won my very first set at a prize bingo at my primary school I also collect wrestling figures I've got a mint condition Sensational Sherri figure still in her box that i bought off Ebay. she died last year so hopefully the figure will be worth something some day
  • I collect squished pennies and sand. I have been getting them at places I visit and bringing it back. I juts started to accumulate enough (I'm kind of a packrat) until I could call it a collection.
  • I have been collecting Garnets, Quartz, Geode's,Petrified Wood, and many more kinds of rocks for about 12 years now. My collection moved out of the small room I kept them in to an entire side of my 2 car garage. To date I have categorized more than 25 thousand specimens. I don't see an end in sight now that my daughter has also become very interested in my hobby as well, and will take several trips with me to dig sites, and is constantly picking rocks up and bringing them home for me to look at.It's a lot of fun. I would recommend it to anybody.

  • I collect Coca-Cola items. I got started when I found an old serving tray at a yard sale and have been slowly building my collection for about 10 years now. Some of the items I have in my collection might fetch a pretty penny.
  • As a collector of many things, it usually actually starts on accident, you just suddenly notice that you have alot of said collection, and you just begin to focus on getting more of it.
  • I collect archie comics! My grandmother use to buy me one everytime we went to the store and when she died i just kept on buying them! I dont think its worth anything to anyone but me!
  • i have a rubber stamp collection and bought a bag of them for $2 in it was a personal stamp of a person called charlie brown i just thought it was neat. probably not worth anything .
  • My Coca-cola collection started when I spotted a wooden crate in an alley behind a bar. I u-turned immediately, opened the door, hid it on the floor in the back seat, and slammed the gas pedal as fast as I could. That was the first coke item I picked up. After that, most of the things I have have been "donated" by different bars and restaurants. My doll collection started when I stumbled accross a pair of grandma and grandpa dolls at a flea market. I bought them on a whim, and now you can say they are the ancestors of all my little girls and boys (about 80, in total)
