We don't. It is yet another romantic falacy...somehow we are overcome with desire/emotion/love and we are helpless..baloney. I differentiate between loving someone and "falling" in love. One is real, true and doesn't need reciprocity..the other is dramatic, emotional, and generally short-lived. :)
