check your engine for fluids. drive at night when it is cool and just do the speed limit. dont pick up any hitch hikers, or stop for anyone that has a problem. take someone with you if possible. leave about three in the morning. stop after four hours for a break and a meal at a golden arches.

Also check the air in your tires and be sure the gas tank is full when you start. Be sure your windshield wipers are in good shape. Take enough money to buy gas and food on the way. Don't listen to one radio station or CD for too long at a time (change to a different style -- including talk radio). Take a box of Kleenex. It's good for a lot more than blowing your nose (napkin, wiping windshield, etc.). Finally, this sounds dumb, but my friend's mother used to make him take peanut brittle with him on drives so the "noise from eating it would keep him awake." (!)
