It all comes down to the disappearing pencil trick. The Dark Knight was awesome.

Batman Begins The Dark Knight was way too busy patting itself on the back for being the thinking man's caped crusader. When it wasn't indulging itself in psycho analysis, it subjected the audience to the redundancy of an inept Gotham City police department, numerous deaths of innocent bystanders and one scene after another of Gordon yelling at his officers to hurry off and f_ck up again. As for the Heath Ledger as Joker hype...I hope he's resting in peace, but THIS man was no Jack Nicholas. I continue to be impressed with Christian Bales. Unfortunately his portrayal was lost this time within the morass of a movie that was relentlessly convoluted. Sometimes, it's ok to dumb it down a bit. (3 out of 5 stars)

So far, Batman Begins resonated more strongly with me. It really made an impact to see the potentially dorky, inexplicable origin of Batman brought down to a somewhat realistic human level. Then again, I've watched BB about 10 times, and I've only seen Dark Knight twice so far. Maybe time will change my opinion, as it's inevitable that I'll watch DK several more times in the future.
