Cross posting does not necessarily mean a question is automatically a duplicate. Posting one question in one catagory tends to make people answer the question within the context of that catagory. So the answers you get for the same question in another catagory may not be the same. However, I would probably change the wording slightly for different catagories in order to tailor it appropriately. You can do this by putting a little extra information along with the question or link it to information you post in an answer to that question so people can understand what it is you want. If you have a problem with a question occasioinally being flagged as a duplicate and it's posted in different catagories, you can appeal to the AB authorities and explain your logic. It will be up to them, ultimately, but I hear that occasionally a flagged question dispute has been resolved favorably for the poster. In all fairness, those that screen the flags do a pretty good job. They apparently review the flagged material quite thoroughly before taking action...it's not automatically accepted.
