Let's say there are two doors. The doors are identical except for one is on the left and the other on the right. One of these doors leads to heaven while the other leads to hell. In front of these two doors are two guards, also identical. Except one guard

    But since I'm psychic I'll do it for you:

    "...always tells the truth and the other guard always lies. With just one question how can you be sure to learn which of the doors leads to heaven?"

    Answer:

    Ask either guard: "If I were to ask the other guard which door leads to heaven, which one would he tell me?" Whichever door is indicated, you take the other door!

    The answer to your unfinished riddle is to ask either guard which door the OTHER guard would say is the one which leads to heaven. And then choose the opposite one.
