  • Well there are some very popular resorts there -- I've been to a couple. But because they're so close to the metropolitan area, they can become very crowded. I prefer Mammoth, which is about a 5 hour drive north of L.A. Note that I've never really gotten past a low-intermediate skill level, so I don't get up on the black diamonds at all and can't provide much info about those altitudes!
  • i agree with stableboy it is nice there and good skiing. i ski all the trails. i am from the east coast but have skied big bear a few times for advance skiers it may get small after a day and can get busy (would avoid weekends and hollidays) on the other hand if there is any way you can make it to Mammoth for a few days that will be a time to be remembered, from beginer to expert it has it all. from lift systems to shuttel buses I found it one of the easiest mountains to get around
  • it is fairly good but crowded
