Both are destroyed along with the contents of both spaces. Stick a portable hole into a bag of holding and then open the hole (or vice versa) and that is what will happen.

The real "by the rules" answer is: If the spell or effect says something happens, then it does. If nothing is specified, then by the rules nothing special happens. Now the DM may decide to make something happen anyway if he/she thinks it makes sense. For example, it specifically says if you place a bag of holding into a portable hole, bad stuff happens. It does not say "If you place a bag of holding into any extradimensional space, you blow up."

Not to be a stickler, but things don't go kaboom, they go to the astral plane. Depending on whether you put the bag in the hole, or the hole in the bag, either just the items go, or everyone within 10 feet go and the items are destroyed. Also, most DMs count that the same thing happens in other extradimensional cases, although the Rules as Written say nothing would happen, only Bags of Holding and Portable Holes.
